Dovo Red Bone – $100

Posted by holli4pirating on November 25, 2010

These are listed as 5/8, but measure 11/16 from the top of the spine to the edge.

I think this is a beautiful razor, with a goldwashed/patterened spine and the bone scales dyed red. I also really like how this razor felt against my face.

The pivot is snug, the blade stands open, and she centers into the scales.

I picked this up to test do a comparison with my finishers, so she’s been honed once, test shaved once, and is shave ready in as new condition.

Dovo Prima Klang – $125

Posted by holli4pirating on November 25, 2010

These are listed as 5/8, but measure 11/16 from the top of the spine to the edge.

This razor is Dovo’s extra hollow ground, so she’s a bit lighter and benefits from a lighter touch when honing/shaving.

This is the one with Redwood scales. The pivot is snug, the blade sits open, and the razor centers on closing.

I picked this up to compare my finishers, so she’s been honed once, shave tested once, and is shave ready in as new condition.

Comes in the hard blue retail packaging.

Dovo Ivory Micarta – $125

Posted by holli4pirating on November 25, 2010

These are listed as 5/8, but measure 11/16 from the top of the spine to the edge.

Jimps bottom, stainless and patterned razor, snug in the scales, stands open, and centers.

This razor is brand new, except that I have honed it once and test shaved with it once (I was comparing my Thurry and my Asagi in a heads up fight to the death-of-my-beard). So she is shave ready and has as little hone wear as a new, shave ready razor can have.

Sorry the photos are terrible, I overexposed them and was too lazy to set up to reshoot.

Dovo Best Quality (6/8) – $70

Posted by holli4pirating on November 14, 2010

This is the 6/8 version in yellow synthetic scales, but it measures 13/16 from the top of the spine to the edge.

Jimps top and bottom, round point, snug in the scales, stands open, and centers.

I think the BQ’s are highly underrated shavers; they take a very smooth shaving edge and perform extremely well.

I picked this one up to test my finishers against each other, so she’s been honed once, shave tested once, and is shave ready in as new condition.

This razor is sold pending payment.

A&F Ward – $85

Posted by holli4pirating on November 5, 2010

13/16, quarter hollow, barber’s notch, thumb notch.  I have restored this razor, and it is the first set of scales I’ve made.  Black acrylic with a white spacer.  There are some marks left over from when I beveled the outer edges of the scales, but that’s really all that’s wrong with them (and I think we know I’m very honest about my work).  The blade does not have a mirror finish – there are still some remains of pitting and some light toe to heal scratches.  The blade is snug, sits open, and centers in the scales.

This razor is shave ready.

George Wostenholm Celebrated Sheffield Hollow Ground – $45

Posted by holli4pirating on November 5, 2010

9/16, full hollow, round point, jimps top and bottom.  She has some light staining, but I left it to preserve the beautiful black in the etch on the blade.  I don’t think this is a particularly etch or size for a Wostenholm, so she may be on the rarer side.  Regardless, she delivers the typical Sheffield shave, which I love, but on a smaller than typical platform, which makes her interesting to me.  Pivot is snug, the blade stands open, and she centers into straight scales.

This razor is shave ready.

White Swan – $35

Posted by holli4pirating on November 5, 2010

5/8, full hollow, square point, jimps top.  As far as I know, this is just another generic, vintage Solingen blade imported for sale in the States.  And like all other blades in that category, she is a solid shaver and would make a great starter blade or workhorse.  This one also happens to be in nice cosmetic shape and with mild to moderate hone wear.  The pivot is snug, the blade stands open, and she centers into straight scales.

This razor is shave ready.

Torrey Our Beauty – $65

Posted by holli4pirating on November 5, 2010

5/8, full hollow, rounded square point, top notch, ridged spine, jimps top and bottom, shoulderless.  I think these are the most beautiful Torrey’s, and I also love how they handle.  The unusual grind leaves them a bit heavier than a standard full hollow, and yet they feel more nimble to me.  And Torrey’s are, of course, fantastic American steel razors, so she shaves like a dream.  Pivot is snug, the blade stands open, and she centers into straight scales.

Sheffield – English Steel – $40

Posted by holli4pirating on November 5, 2010

6/8, full hollow, round point, shallow jimps bottom.  I don’t know anything about this razor, but it reminds me of a Rogers (not Rodgers, just Rogers).  The blade appears to be plated, but I can assure you she is not a substandard razor.  The pivot is a little loose, so she needs to be guided closed, but she snugs up around 90 degrees and remains snug.  Scales are straight.

Ern Ator – $50

Posted by holli4pirating on November 5, 2010

11/16, full hollow, round point, shoulderless, humped tang/dropped blade, jimps top and bottom, ATOR scales.  There is some light staining and shallow pitting on the razor, and at the pivot.  The front scale cracked at the wedge pin, but it’s stable.  But still, this ATOR is a beautiful blade and a fantastic shaver.  The pivot is snug, the blade stands open, and she centers in the scales.  The scales are slightly warped inward, but the blade still centers perfectly between them.

This razor is shave ready.
