11/16 Dubl Duck SatinEdge – $110

Posted by holli4pirating on November 21, 2009

A rather nice Dubl Duck SatinEdge.  She measures in at just over 11/16, and I believe she was NOS before I honed her.  Blade is very clean, but there are a few spots of stained pitting on the back and one on the spine.

Scales are not the same ones that I’m used to seeing; I believe these are less common (based on what I’ve seen), but I could be mistaken.  The pivot is just a touch loose, so the blade tends to close towards the back scale and must be guided closed.  This could be fixed with a light tapping to the back of the pivot pin, but I’d leave that to someone with more experience than I.

She is shave ready, and the price includes standard shipping.

5/8 Bowdin’s Wedge Hand Made – $45

Posted by holli4pirating on November 21, 2009

A 5/8 quarter hollow ground blade with a square point.  Stamped Bowdin’s Wedge Hand Made on the front of the tang with an end on picture of a wedge on either side of the writing.  There is some staining on the blade and the original grind marks can be seen as well.  I wasn’t sure if the tang was supposed to be blackened or not, so I didn’t clean it up; there is blackening around the pivot.  I am not totally certain, but I believe this is an American made razor.

Scales are yellow synthetic with a white spacer.  The scales are straight, the blade pivots nicely, and the blade centers on closing.  The scales have shrunk just a touch, so some care must be used when closing the razor.  There are also matching marks on both scales below the wedge pin, as seen in the picture.

This razor is shave ready, and the price includes standard shipping.

11/16 Wm Elliot & Co #5 – $50

Posted by holli4pirating on November 21, 2009

Stamped William Elliot & Co Made In Germany and 5 on the front of the tang.  The razor is 11/16 wide with a square point and just a tad heavier than a full hollow grind.  She’s a stiffer shaver than I thought she’d be, and very smooth too.  There’s just a spot of staining on the back by the shoulder (what appears to be staining at the toe is just a reflection), and some very light scratching on the blade that I couldn’t get to show.

The scales are a bit unusual.  They are black horn with bolsters – something that you don’t see too often.  There is just a bit of wear to the horn, but they’re in great shape and straight.  The blade pivots snugly and centers on closing.

This razor is shave ready, and the price includes standard shipping.

9/16 Wolverine MI Germany; Miller & Co Detroit – $35

Posted by holli4pirating on November 21, 2009

This razor is a nimble little thing.  A square point measuring in at 9/16 with a full hollow grind.  Stamped Wolverine MI Germany on the front of the tang and Miller & Co Detroit on the back.  There is some light staining on the blade with the grind marks visible.

The scales are black synthetic with a white spacer.  The scales are straight, the blade pivots nicely, and the blade centers on closing.

6/8 Rogers Warranted – $30

Posted by holli4pirating on November 17, 2009

PRICE REDUCED TO $30

Stamped Rogers over Warranted on the front of the tang, with jimps on the bottom.  The razor is 6/8 and just shy of a full hollow grind.  Muted square toe and single ground shoulder make this razor quite easy to manage on the face.  There is some staining and pitting on the razor, along with light scratch marks and grind marks.  The tang is a bit bigger than a normal razor; I can fit two fingers on, but YMMV.

Scales are blonde horn, and they are a bit worn.  They are, however, fully functional.  The blade pivots a bit loosely until you get to 90 degrees, but then things tighten up.  The scales are straight, and the razor centers on closing with no wiggle.

5/8 Shumate Barber – $40

Posted by holli4pirating on November 17, 2009

The blade measures in at just over 5/8, about 3/4 hollow ground with a muted square point.  There is some pitting and staining near and on the spine, but that is only cosmetic.  Stamped Shumate Barber on the front of the tang and Shumate Cutlery Corp over St Louis MO on the back.  This razor is a solid piece of American steel from a respected manufacturer.  Please note I muted the toe to deal with the chip that is present in the reflection pictures.  The picture of the whole razor shows the muted toe after the chip was removed.  So there is no longer a chip in the edge, just the muted toe.

Scales are black plastic.  The scales are straight, the razor pivots nicely, and the razor centers on closing.

6/8 Montg Ward & Co Chicago “Our Alliance” – $50

Posted by holli4pirating on November 17, 2009

A rather interesting blade.  Stamped Montg Ward & Co over Chicago on the tang and etched Our Alliance on the blade; I’m not sure where she was made.  The razor is about a half hollow with a Spanish-ish toe – the cutting edge extends past the spine.  The grind means this razor has some heft and is a stiff and quiet shaver.  Some staining on the blade and pitting up near and on the spine.

Scales are black bakelite.  The scales are straight, the razor pivots nicely, and the blade centers on closing.

This razor is shave ready and is a fantastic shaver at that.  Price includes standard shipping.

5/8 Clauss 4102 – $30

Posted by holli4pirating on November 17, 2009

A 5/8 full hollow, round point blade from Clauss out of Fremont, Ohio, USA.  Some shallow pitting and staining dots the blade, but it is only cosmetic.  Clauss razors are great American steel, though an underrated brand.

Scales are black synthetic with bolsters.  Unfortunately, the bottom bolsters, though firmly attached, do not lie totally on the scales, as shown in the picture.  The scales are straight, the blade pivots nicely, and the blade centers when closed.

This razor is shave ready, and would be great for a new shaver or a restore project.  Price includes standard shipping.

5/8 Bradley Bro’s Oriental Hollow Ground – $35

Posted by holli4pirating on November 17, 2009

This razor is a solid shaver.  She’s just over 5/8 with a nice smile and a square point.  She’s just shy of a full hollow grind, so there isn’t much flex or noise while shaving, which I like.  The tang says Bradley Bro’s Oriental Hollow Ground, and I’m not sure where she was made.  There is some light pitting and staining on the blade, but it’s purely cosmetic.

Scales are plain black bakelite.  The scales are straight, the blade pivots nicely, and the blade centers on closing.

She is shave ready, and the price includes standard shipping.

11/16 Dubl Duck SatinEdge – $90

Posted by holli4pirating on November 12, 2009

In my opinion,  a very nice SatinEdge.  I don’t think there is much that I need to say about this razor.  Though there is staining on the blade, there is no pitting, so it wouldn’t take much to get her back to a mirror finish.  Hone wear is minimal, but the toe has been muted a bit.

The scales are a beautiful clear material with brass inlays.  The scales are also unwarped and show no signs of rotting whatsoever – they are totally clear.  The only fault is that pivot is a bit loose, and the blade closes towards the front scale, so she needs to be guided closed.  This could be fixed with the proper tapping on the pivot pin, but that is beyond my skill.

This razor is shave ready, and the price includes standard shipping.
